I subscribed to this blog a while back. There are many tensions here that I can’t attach to being a Christian way of life…. you may agree or disagree. I could change my title to ‘Why I never want to live in the USA’. Found at:-
Why I Carry a Gun
I don’t know who to attitribute this to, but it is about me as much as anyone.
Why I Carry a Gun
- I don’t carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed.
- I don’t carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.
- I don’t carry a gun because I’m paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.
- I don’t carry a gun because I’m evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.
- I don’t carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.
- I don’t carry a gun because I’m angry. I carry a gun so that I don’t have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.
- I don’t carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.
- I don’t carry a gun because I’m a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die and go to Heaven, I want to be a cowboy.
- I don’t carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.
- I don’t carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.
- I don’t carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.
Yes guns have their problems. A little girl here in Guam started her year in the ICU after getting hit by a stray bullet that was fired to welcome in the new Year! http://www.pdnguam.com
Have a Happy New Year!!!
I am biased, as you would know by the website I am loosely affiliated with. I just want to say that you don’t have to like guns or ever want to carry one to be able to respect others’ rights to do so. I carry a firearm for self-defense every day of my life, but I can guarantee you that I will NEVER be attached to a sad story about guns because I secure mine so my kids cannot get them, I have trained them so they don’t think of guns as some mystical item that will be fun to play with. They respect the guns and know that if they play with them, bad things WILL happen.
Most of the tragedies with small children happen because children are curious, and when presented with a firearm and no supervision they want to explore it… Guns are here to stay, even if you get all of the law abiding citizens to turn theirs over, the criminals never will and they will always have them, making them more dangerous. If you don’t believe me, check out what happened in Australia after they outlawed guns for the public.

I still don’t agree. From a British perspective gun crime is on the increase in th UK but I have been in positions where I have arrested a person who has a firearm without me having to shoot him before he shoots me. I have had experience of forearms on a daily level and I agree that criminals will have them anyway, but my stance remains the same. Thanks anyway.
